Located in Binh Dinh province, the Phuong Mai wind power project has good potential for wind energy. Binh Dịnh is a province of Vietnam located in South Central Coast region. Menard Asia’s solution in Binh Dinh Province was using the Controlled Modulus Column technique as ground reinforcement for the wind turbine generator foundations in Phuong Mai 3 Wind Farm Project.
Construction of six wind turbine generator foundations namely TB01 to TB06, which required soil reinforcement under circular concrete footings (diameter of 21 m to 26 m) being embedded at a depth of 3.1 m from the final platform level.
The ground condition in Phuong Mai 3 Wind Farm was loose to medium sandy soil with variable depth (between 2 m to 4 m below the bottom of the foundation level), overlying bearing competent layers.
Menard’s solution using controlled modulus columns in combination with a load transfer platform (LTP) allows for compliance with the design criteria in terms of SLS bearing capacity more than 200 kPa, dynamic deformation modulus, EY,dyn > 60 MPa, and subgrade reaction coefficient, kv > 5 MPa/m, for the six turbines.
