Discover how Menard Asia delivered ground improvement for the FLOPAM chemical factory using Controlled Modulus Columns and bored piles to stabilize soft clay soil in Indonesia.

FLOPAM Factory CMC & Bored Pile Project 1

Project Overview

Menard Indonesia supported the foundation works for a new chemical factory, the FLOPAM building. The site was located on soft clay soil, which required special treatment to avoid long-term settlement issues and ensure reliable load-bearing performance.

Project Challenge

The site’s clayey ground presented low bearing strength and risk of uneven settlement. The challenge was to deliver a stable, engineered platform for heavy industrial structures within a tight schedule and in line with safety standards.

Our Ground Improvement Approach

Menard deployed a combined method of Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) and bored piles, along with earthworks to create a solid foundation.

  • Site Preparation: The site was excavated and leveled to design elevation. Three compacted layers of crushed stone were laid to stabilize the ground surface.

  • Installation Techniques:

    • CMC Columns: 1,696 units (32 cm diameter) to improve soil strength and control settlement

    • Bored Piles: 212 piles of various diameters installed to directly support heavy factory components

    • Execution Efficiency: Both methods were carried out in parallel to save time and maintain project flow

Outcome

This combined foundation solution ensured structural safety while meeting the client’s construction timeline. The use of CMC reduced settlement risks and helped distribute loads efficiently, while bored piles reinforced load-critical zones.
