The use of Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) and Prefabricated Horizontal Drain (PHD) in South Kalimantan,Indonesia to generate ground improvement by Menard Asia. New Coal Yard Asam – Asam is one of Menard Asia projects in collaboration with PT. Truba to build a supporting facility for PLTU Asam – Asam owned by PLN. Menard Asia treated the soil improvement through settlement acceleration of new coal yard inside an existing electricity production complex.

Asam Asam is a steam power plant located in Asri Mulia village, Jorong sub-district, Tanah Laut district, South Kalimantan. PLTU Asam Asam is the main supplier of electricity systems in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan with a total capacity of 260MW
In Asam Asam, Menard Asia taking a part in conducting ground improvement using Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) and Prefabricated Horizontal Drain (PHD) techniques. This technology speeds up the consolidation process and increases the bearing strength of the soil so that landslide problems can be prevented.
Ground Improvement by Menard Asia
Soft soils, such as soft estuarine and marine clays, peats, and marshy soils, encountered commonly along deltaic and coastal regions throughout the world, are highly compressible in nature and possess undesirable geotechnical properties, such as high natural moisture content (close to the liquid limit), low undrained shear strength and low hydraulic conductivity. Therefore, structures constructed on these soils face problems of stability and serviceability if measures are not taken to improve them
Menard Asia have treated 20,000 square meters of land to create a solid foundation for a project. For Asam Asam project, Menard Asia only took 1.5 months to complete this project.
