Menard Asia has completed a ground improvement project in Ringlet,  Cameron Highlands using Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD). The project addressed the soft ground condition, which was anticipated due to the area’s history as a former sediment dump from the adjacent site.

Project Overview

Menard Asia, a leading geotechnical engineering company, has completed a ground improvement project in Ringlet Township at Cameron Highlands. The project addressed the soft ground condition, which was anticipated due to the area’s history as a former sediment dump from the adjacent site. The Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) solution has significantly improved the soil strength, providing a more stable ground for future development.

Ground Condition

The soft ground conditions at the site posed significant challenges for the future TNB’S infrastructure. It is expected to induce excessive ground settlement without any treatment. Hence a ground improvement technique should be carried out to minimize the settlement and provide a stable platform for the infrastructure.

Menard Solution

Menard Asia executed the job using Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs). This method is a widely recognized and proven ground improvement technique that accelerates the consolidation process of soft soils. The installation of PVDs involves vertically placing prefabricated strips of plastic drainage core wrapped with geotextile into the soft ground, allowing for efficient drainage of excess water and expediting the consolidation of the soil.

By implementing the Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) solution, it has successfully treated the soft ground and improved soil strength, providing a better ground condition for future development.
